Me-thanol, also known as hydroxymethane, wood alcohol or wood spirits, is an organic compound and the simplest saturated monohydric alcohol with the chemical formula CH3OH/CH4O. The molecular weight is 32.04 and the boiling point is 64.7°C. Meit-hanol is known as "wood alcohol" and "wood alcohol" because its main production method was extraction from wood vinegar (one of the products of wood distillation or cracking). Modern me-tha-nol is produced directly from carbon , carbon dioxide and hydrogen in a catalytic industrial process. M-eth-anol is light, volatile, colorless, flammable, and has an odor very similar to ethanol (drinking alcohol). But unlike ethanol, me-th-an-ol is highly toxic and should not be consumed. Ethanol is usually used as a solvent, antifreeze, fuel or denaturant, and can also be used to produce biodiesel through transesterification reaction.
