Azo pigment is a class of insoluble organic compounds containing azo group in the molecular structure, which has the characteristics of bright color and strong coloring power, but the firmness is poor. Because of convenient manufacture and low price, azo pigment is still widely used.

Main types
Azo pigments can be further classified according to their chemical structure:

Mono azo pigments: These include Pigment Yellow 3 (PY3), Pigment Yellow 65 (PY65), Pigment Yellow 73 (PY73), Pigment Yellow 74 (PY74), Pigment Yellow 97 (PY97), Pigment Yellow 98 (PY98) and so on, which are usually sold under the trade name of Hansa Yellow. These pigments are usually sold under the trade name "Hansa Yellow".
Double azo pigments: including benzidine yellow G, permanent solid yellow 2GS, water-solid yellow HR, benzidine yellow DGR and so on.
Pyrazolone double azo pigments: such as permanent orange yellow G and permanent orange RL
Azo condensation pigments: including yellow 8GN, red BRN, condensed azo big red R and condensed azo big red 4RF etc.

Chemical composition
The chemical composition of azo pigment mainly includes:

Diazo component: formed by diazotization of aromatic amines and heterocyclic aromatic amines.
Azo component: formed by acetoacetyl aromatic amine, pyrazolone, 2-naphthol, 2-hydroxy-3-naphthalenecarboxamide, benzimidazolone and so on.
