Magnesium oxide (MgO), with the chemical formula MgO, is an inorganic compound that appears as a white, loose powder. It is an ionic compound with a high melting point (2800°C) and high boiling point (3600°C). It is insoluble in water at room temperature, with a water solubility of 6.2 mg/L (20°C). Magnesium oxide has a moderate density of 3.58 g/cm³ (25°C) and a molecular weight of 40.30. Application

Magnesium oxide has many uses and is widely used in building materials, municipal administration, agriculture, machinery and other fields.
1. In the building materials industry, magnesium oxide is used to produce magnesium cement. This new type of cement has the advantages of light weight, high strength, heat insulation and fireproof, environmental protection and energy saving.
2. Fireproof. As a building material, magnesium oxide wallboard has several attractive properties: fireproof, termite-proof, moisture-proof, mildew-proof and strength.
3. Magnesium oxide is widely used in soil and groundwater remediation, wastewater treatment, drinking water treatment, air emission treatment and waste treatment industries due to its acid buffering capacity and related efficacy of stable dissolution of heavy metal substances.
4. It can also be used as a raw material for the manufacture of ceramics, enamel, refractory bricks, etc.
