Talc powder, also known as Pulvistalci or Talcum Powder, is a fine, white or off-white, non-sandy powder that feels greasy to the touch. It is odorless and tasteless, and is practically insoluble in water, diluted mineral acids, or diluted alkaline hydroxide solutions. The main component of talc powder is hydrated magnesium silicate, with the chemical formula Mg3Si4O10(OH)2.
Talc powder is derived from the talc mineral, which belongs to the talc family of silicate minerals. After being crushed, treated with hydro-chloric a-cid, washed, and dried, it is ready for use. Talc powder has a density of 1.06 g/cm3 and a molecular weight of 379.3.
