Azelaic acid is white to yellowish monoclinic prism, acicular crystal or powder. The melting point is 106.5ºC, the boiling point is >360 (partial decomposition), 226ºC (1.33kPa), 287ºC (13.3kPa), the relative density is 1.225(25/4ºC), and the refractive index is 1.4303(111ºC). Soluble in hot water, alcohol and hot benzene, slightly soluble in water, ether and benzene.

1. Mainly used in the production of azelaic dioctyl ester plasticizer, but also as the production of spices, lubricants, oils, polyamide resin raw materials.

 

2. Azelaic acid has antibacterial properties and can be used as a food preservative.The use of mouthwash is beneficial to the prevention and treatment of dental caries, and the use of soap can prevent the surface of the soap from cracking.

 

Azelaic acid is a dermatological drug used to treat acne, melasma and skin melanin deposits. It is also an important organic synthesis intermediate, used in plastics, rubber and other industries for the synthesis of plasticizers, in aviation oil for the synthesis of low temperature high-speed lubricants, electrolytic capacitor manufacturing and other important applications.


It is used as raw material for the production of plasticizer dioctyl azelate and spices, lubricating oil, oil agent and polyamide resin.
As a reagent, it is also used in organic synthesis.
Most azelaic acid is used in the production of dioctyl azelate (DOZ) plasticizers, while others are used as raw materials for fragrances, lubricants, oils, and polyamide resins. DOZ is used as a cold-resistant plasticizing material for cables, films, artificial leather, etc., with low volatility and good aging resistance. DOZ can also be used as a softener for synthetic rubber. Azelanedinitrile can be prepared by dehydration of azelaic acid.
